Tire and Surf, from David Bayles’ series Water’s Edge, is an image that has become all too familiar. Truly clean sandy beaches can only be found in travel brochures to far away exotic places. Today the beach where you spend your summer days is riddled with the garbage of people that came before you. You are more likely to come across plastic bags and bottles than you are shells and wildlife. David Bayles’ photograph captures the contradiction that we live with everyday; the dream of our beautiful natural surroundings and the reality of our utter disrespect for it.
